Get to Know Me

Welcome to my blog!

Just like you, I face adversity in my personal and professional life. I’m also creating a life I love. I’m on a journey to live a more authentic life. I’m learning about myself and making new discoveries every day!

Throughout my career with the U.S. Navy, I coached and mentored others. I learned quite a few lessons – and I am still learning. I want to share what I have learned with you here in my blog, on the Onward Podcast, and in the Onward Movement.

My life isn’t perfect. I was in the 6th class of women to graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy. During my plebe (freshman year), I suffered a knee injury and was in a full length cast for seven weeks. Plebe year is tough enough – the injury made it extremely challenging and nearly ended my promising basketball career.

I had an accomplished career working for the Navy, ultimately retiring as a member of the Senior Executive Service. I learned how to succeed in a male dominated work environment and was promoted to senior level positions while being a single parent with significant personal challenges.

I have been married and divorced three times. My son suffers from alcoholism (sober now) and my daughter from anxiety and several invisible illnesses. My children are not defined by their challenges and I have enjoyed coaching them in overcoming adversity in their lives. My former husband and children’s father passed away in December 2019 and I talked about it in several Onward Podcast episodes including this one: Closing Out a Chapter of Life.

We are not alone in life, although sometimes it can feel that way. I have a strong desire to serve others as a personal life coach because I find deep satisfaction in helping others realize their potential and achieve their goals. Helping others enables us to deal with our own challenges and realize we are not alone.

Upon retiring from the federal government in May 2019, I published the Onward Podcast. We all need encouragement in dealing with adversity. The Onward Podcast features authentic conversations on facing adversity and moving forward. Here’s a link to the most popular episode: A Mother and Son’s Discussion on Addiction and Recovery.

I learn from each guest and I want the same for you! The podcast covers a range of topics and includes personal messages which will inspire and encourage you as you overcome obstacles and move onward.

I want to hear from YOU! How can I help you move onward? What topics would you like me to cover on the podcast and in my blogs?
